Winter Skin Care Ritual

by Byron Bourne

Keep your skin beautiful + hydrated all through winter with our hydrating tips.

1 // Drink water

Yes, you need to keep your fluids up, especially in winter.  Your skin will be a massive tell tale sign if you're dehydrated!  So grab a big bottle of filtered h20 and take it with you all day.  You're more likely to drink more water when you have a big bottle staring you in the face.

2 // Natural + Organic Cleanser

Soothe and Revitalise. Be gentle to your skin. Feeding your skin with all the right nutrients is key to keep your skin hydrated through the cooler months.  If you're wearing makeup, it's very important to remove all traces of makeup before cleansing.  Using a small amount of coconut oil, rub between your hands, gently smooth over face and use cotton pads to remove the makeup and coconut oil.  Use a warm (dark coloured) face washer to wipe off any excess and proceed to cleanse your skin. Opt for a milk cleanser in the winter, as it's hydrating on the skin.  Gel + foam cleansers will dry out and strip your skin of it's natural oils.  Clarify + brighten your skin by using a cleanser with blend of key ingredients including Cucumber, Rose Hip and Aloe Vera work to leave the skin feeling luxuriously soft and supple.

3 // Exfoliate

Stimulate and Rejuvenate. Don't go over board with exfoliating!  Only exfoliate once a week.  Regular exfoliation is an important part of maintaining healthy skin. When done the right way, it can stimulate blood circulation, even out complexion, reduce pre mature aging and tighten pores.  Steer clear of any exfoliators with mircobeads (they will even weaken your skin barrier)! Not only will mircobeads ruin your skin, they're bad for our planet as well!  Instead, opt for a natural + organic exfoliator.  Even better - opt for one that can offer multiple benefits!  The one we recommend even doubles as a mask.

4 // Steam

Add steaming to your DIY facial.  You want to add this step if after cleansing + exfoliating your face. Hold your face over the steaming water. Drape a towel over your head so that it creates a sort of tent over your face, and hold your face over the water. Keep your face over the steam for about 10 minutes. Close your eyes and breathe deeply, allowing the heat to awaken your face and open your pores.  Don't steam your face for too long, or get too close to the hot water. The heat can cause inflammation if exposure is too high. Add some indulgence to your facial steam by adding some fresh or dried herbs or high grade therapeutic essential oils that will release beneficial aromas. An herbal teabag will also do the trick! Try the following herbs and oils to enhance your steam:

  • Use lemongrass or peppermint for an energizing steam.
  • Use chamomile or lavender for a relaxing steam.
  • Use peppermint or eucalyptus for a cold-conquering steam.
  • Use sandalwood or bergamot for a stress-relieving steam.

5 // Mask

Nourish and Restore.  Feed your skin.  Bring back your natural glow by luxuriously nourishing and illuminating your skin with a hydrating mask. A combination of Pomegranate Seed Oil, Vitamin C, Avocado oil and Rose Water to leave your complexion soft, supple and youthful.  Apply to your face, neck, décolletage + hands.

6 // Serum

Using a serum in your skin care routine is vital. Serums generally penetrate the deepest layers of the skin to help normalise cell activity and boost the effects of moisturiser.  All serums have are specifically made with a concern in mind, so be sure to choose the right one for your concern.

7 // Moisturise

The final step to your daily skin care ritual. Moisturisers play an important role in keeping your skin healthy and nourished. They treat and take care of your skin and prevent it from drying by holding water in the outer layer of epidermis. However, that’s not all they do. Moisturisers protect your skin from environmental influences by acting as a barrier between skin and dust, dirt, and other particles. They also make the skin soft, smooth, and nourished.
